10th Apr 2018

You hopefully know by now that we’re currently trying to raise a massive £45,000 for Claire House Children’s Hospice. As a part of our fundraising effort we will be hosting a charity pub quiz on Thursday 26th April from 7pm. Tickets are only £5 with a free hot pot dinner included. Claire House representatives will be with us on the night to explain a little bit about what they do and how funds raised will be used. We also have lots of exciting prizes for our raffle draw, including Coach House Inn vouchers and free tickets for a Storyhouse theatre production!
For anyone who hasn’t heard of Claire House before; Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences and bringing back a sense of normality to family life. By providing specialist nursing care and emotional support, they help families to smile again when life couldn’t get any tougher. The care and devotion that their staff and volunteers have towards each and every family is so overwhelming, that we knew as a group that we had to do something big to show our support and hopefully this quiz night will help bring us towards our £45,000 goal!

So far we’ve taken part in a range of crazy and ambitious fundraising activities, from Tough Mudder and the Berlin Marathon, to climbing Snowdon at night, completing the Chester half marathon, walking Hadrian’s wall and even skydiving! We’d just like to say both congratulations to our team and a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us, as we’ve raised an incredible £25,742 so far!

To put that into perspective £25,000 is enough to fund the following;

Play activities for every child who uses Claire House for 4 months – These include sensory and tactile stories, individualised adapted arts and crafts, eye gaze technology, immersive technology, resonance board, iPad games, messy play, Makaton singing, switch work, light room, baking and trips out. Every session is adapted to the child’s/young person’s capabilities, ensuring they still get the opportunity to engage with every activity taking place at Claire House

3.5 months-worth of all physiotherapy sessions and sessions in the hydrotherapy pool – Our physio’s work closely with children and young people both at the hospice and at home and have specific skills and expertise in hydrotherapy, respiratory management and moving/handling. These sessions may help prevent re-admission to hospital or help a child be discharged more quickly.

2.5 months of all family support services – These sessions include mums and tots groups, grandparent and sibling events, counselling sessions and bereavement support.
